Brooklyn, New York, United States
Movement Gowanus is on Butler Street, between Cobble Hill and Park Slope, a short walk from Hoyt–Schermerhorn, Bergen Street and Union Street subway stations. It opened in March 2022 as The Cliffs at Gowanus and now trades as Movement, like the other Cliffs gyms. At 36,000 sq ft over three floors, Movement calls it the largest climbing gym in New York City.
New climbers can start with a 90-minute Introduction to Bouldering or Introduction to Rope Climbing class and keep climbing afterwards; belayers must pass a belay check and be at least 13. Learn to Lead, intermediate technique and lead-falling classes, an anchor-building course, private coaching and an adult training team take climbers further, and new sets can be followed on the KAYA app.
There is a fitness floor with strength and cardio equipment, a yoga studio with classes most days, HIIT, Pilates and climber conditioning, locker rooms with showers and saunas, a gear shop and a roof terrace looking towards Manhattan. The building has lifts and accessible toilets. Youth climbing clubs, school-break camps and competitive teams run through the year, and community groups meet here, including BIPOC, queer femme, adaptive and sober climbing nights. The gym hosted two rounds of Movement's Nor'Easter Bouldering Series in 2025–26, including the superfinals.

Monthly climb night for Black, Indigenous and People of Colour climbers of every level, hosted by the BIPOC Climbing Collective, with bouldering and ropes.
“Love coming to this gym. There are always a few bouldering sets that I find myself projecting on, rope climbs that intrigue me and they've recently been setting fun puzzles next to the speed wall.”
“It was very well ventilated and clean overall. It’s pretty cool how they have multiple floors and so much climbing space. It was also easy to find parking around the area”
“UPDATE: the setting here seems like it gets worse every time I come here. And the bathroom hygiene is getting worse too. Really the only reason to come here anymore is to rope up.”
