Rockville, Maryland, United States
Movement Rockville, long known as Earth Treks Rockville, stands on Rockville Pike not far from Twinbrook Metro station. Its climbing page lists 38,000 sq ft of climbing on walls up to 45 ft, with about 199 roped routes and 96 boulder problems. Most of the terrain is roped, for top-rope and lead, and there is a speed wall as well as a bouldering area; lead checks can be booked and Learn to Lead runs most weeks.
A renovation costing nearly $1 million over the winter of 2023-24 added a training area with a 12x12 Tension Board 2, a 12x12 Kilter Board and hangboards, expanded the fitness room with new cardio and strength equipment, modernised the locker rooms and upgraded the yoga and group fitness room. The party room was rebuilt as a space for parties and after-school classes by day and extra roped terrain for members in the evening, and stadium seating was added.
Introduction to Rope Climbing and Introduction to Bouldering are free for members, and Book a Climb lets instructors handle the ropes for beginners. Further classes cover technique, lead falls and fear, crack climbing and sport climbing outdoors, alongside private coaching, an adult Peak Performance Team, after-school programmes from age four, Kids Climb Time, camps and youth teams.
The calendar is packed: weekly Sends With Friends and Latine Climb Night meet-ups, Student Nights on Fridays, monthly women's, queer and Ladies Climbing Coalition nights, speed climbing nights, a six-week bouldering league and the annual Krampus Cup ropes competition. The gym also hosts USA Climbing youth events.

“This is a great older gym that still have newer assets. My complaints are due to the lack of windows and natural light, paired with inconsistent grading of the climbs, and lack of clean holds.”
“Super cool gym, TONS of climbs. This place is HUGE. I only did bouldering, of which there is plenty. … 90% of the rest is overhang to one extent or another.”
