We like climbing a little too much

Best Climbing Walls started as a passion project between two friends who can't go anywhere new without checking out every wall they can. It now lists 3,533 climbing walls and bouldering gyms in 86 countries, with the details you'd want to know before you go.

Our story

So… why are we doing this?

We happen to like climbing a little too much. So much that every time we go somewhere new, we want to check out every wall we can.

But finding out what you want to know about a climbing wall can be tricky with the good ol' Google search. The little Google boxes don't always have the best photos, and finding out whether a wall is dog friendly, has a nice cafe or has decent training equipment can be nigh on impossible, even for our partners in crime, who happen to be expert detectives.

It's even worse abroad. As Englishmen, we have a hard time asking for the bill in restaurants abroad, never mind finding out whether the members-only bouldering palace in Prague has a fingerboard, whilst reading in Czech.

Talking to our friends, we realised we weren't the only ones with this problem, so we set out on a quest to find a website we could use to solve it.

Short story is… there wasn't one.

Luckily, one of us is quite good with the old interwebs (he handles the techy bits about as well as Ondra handles rocks), so we decided to chalk up and send it ourselves.

Where does your information come from?

We research walls from their own websites first: their prices, opening hours and facilities. Then we check their map listings, their social profiles, and climbing sites and local news for things like wall specs, openings and closures. Ratings weigh up the reviews of a wall on every site people review walls on, along with reviews from climbers here.

How up to date is it?

We're updating the site daily! At least, we're trying to. With 3,533 walls listed so far and plenty more out there, adding and updating them all is no small task. If you spot something out of date, or a wall we've missed, please let us know.

Tell us what's changed
How accurate are the prices?

We list prices as walls publish them and check them whenever we research a wall, but prices change, so it's worth checking with the wall before you go. If you choose to see prices in your own currency, we convert them at the European Central Bank's latest rates, so treat those as a guide.

Can I register my climbing wall on your site?

Absolutely. Our goal is to list as many climbing walls and gyms worldwide as possible, and we're going to need all the help we can get to make that dream a reality. If your wall or gym isn't listed, or you'd like to manage your own listing, drop us a line and we'll gladly help.

Are there any fees for managing my own wall or gym on your site?

At the moment, nope! Whilst we're building everything out, we won't charge a penny for managing your listing. In the future we might charge a small fee for access to certain features and information, but we intend to keep the most important tools completely free for all owners, forever.

I've spotted an issue with the site. Where do I raise it?

Thanks! We try our best to squash any bugs, but we can't always find them by ourselves. Please send us the details through our contact form.

Absolutely. We love hearing from wall owners and brands, and welcome guest posts for our blog. If you've got something you think the climbing community would love to hear about, send it our way. We can't promise to post everything, but we'll certainly give it a good read!
