Movement Harlem is a bouldering-only gym on West 125th Street, across from the Apollo Theater and close to the A, B, C, D, 2 and 3 trains. It opened in July 2021 as The Cliffs at Harlem and now trades as Movement, like the other Cliffs gyms. Movement gives the gym 16,000 sq ft and calls it the largest climbing gym in Manhattan.
Beginners can start with a 90-minute Introduction to Bouldering class, and a family version teaches parents and children together. An Introduction to Technique class, an intermediate technique package, private coaching and an adult training team help climbers progress. The gym runs a members' team bouldering league, the Harlem Grand Prix, and hosts competitions, including a Nor'Easter Bouldering Series round and a USA Climbing youth qualifier.
There is a fitness area with strength and cardio equipment, a yoga space with classes through the week, HIIT classes, locker rooms with showers and a gear shop, and the building is ADA accessible. Youth programmes include after-school clubs, camps and competitive teams. Community nights run every month, including CRUX LGBTQIA+ meet-ups, a BIPOC climb night, a Ladies+ night and a community night for members and visitors.
