Nottingham Climbing Centre New Basford fills a former swimming pool on Noel Street. It has 15-metre walls with 28 lead lines, 26 top-rope lines and seven auto belays (bring your own rope for leading), over 150 boulder problems from Font 4 to 7C, two training areas, a kids' bouldering area and a café. Courses run from a one-hour bouldering intro to three-session learn-to-lead.
The University of Nottingham wall at David Ross Sports Village on University Park is open to the public on a pay-as-you-go Sport Pass. It has a 12-metre roped wall with over 50 routes and three auto belays, a bouldering wall and a MoonBoard. Nottingham Trent's City Sports Centre wall is used mainly by NTU students and its climbing club.
An adult day pass is £11.50 at Depot and £12 at both NCC centres, Boatyard Boulders and the university wall, which drops to £10 off-peak. NCC charges £11 before 2pm and £10.50 on Fridays, and its registration (£6, one-off) covers both sites. Monthly passes cost about £44 to £55: Depot's 12-month direct debit is £44 a month, and NCC's pre-paid month is £55.
Depot offers a free 30-minute introduction with entry, NCC Lenton has a one-hour Open Bouldering Intro and a Family Boulder Taster that teaches adults to supervise their children, and the university wall's Learn to Climb session costs £24. For children, NCC runs Wild Climbers (ages 5 to 7) and NICAS (7 to 18), Depot has Depot Play for under-fives, Kids Club and Teen Bouldering, and Boatyard Boulders lets children from four climb on its covered kids' wall.
The Peak District is under an hour away. The nearest gritstone is Black Rocks above Cromford, with about 270 climbs and limestone at High Tor and Willersley Castle close by, and Stanage, the busiest edge in the country, is further north beyond the Hope Valley.
