The Climbing Hub
The Climbing Hub is Bradford's own climbing centre, an independent wall at Beckside Business Park off Beckside Road, behind the Insane Air trampoline park. It combines a large bouldering area, including a free-standing boulder, with 16 roped lines for top-roping, lead climbing and auto-belays, plus a Moon Board, a training area, a fitness gym upstairs and a café.
Adults who just turn up get a free bouldering induction. On the ropes, an auto-belay induction costs £20, and there are top-rope sessions and a Learn to Lead course. The Hub is also unusual for setting dry-tooling routes with dedicated holds, and it hires out ice axes and boots for them and hosts the Northern Drytooling Club.
Prices
In October 2026 an adult day pass at the Hub cost £12, with £11 for over-60s and students and £9 for under-18s. Student Mondays and weekday off-peak sessions for over-60s cost £6.50, and under-fives can use the children's walls for £5. A rolling monthly membership costs £44 for an adult, £38 for over-60s and £35 for students and under-18s, with a family rate and a 10-visit punch card (£105) for occasional climbers.
Close to Bradford
ROKT fills The Old Flour Mill on Millroyd Street in Brighouse, beside the canal, with tall indoor roped walls, bouldering with a competition wall and a caving system. Its outdoor wall, ROKTFACE, climbs the mill's grain silo and is billed as the UK's highest man-made outdoor climbing wall. After a spell of private hire only, ROKT announced that it would reopen to the public on 28 October 2026.
Leeds is only about 11 km from Bradford city centre, and its western walls are the nearest after the Hub: The Climbing Lab in Kirkstall for big-hall bouldering, Depot Armley and Big Depot Leeds for roped climbing. Depot's centre in Pudsey, between the two cities, closed for refurbishment in September 2026. See climbing in Leeds and climbing in West Yorkshire for the rest.
Gritstone on the doorstep
The Bradford district has some of Yorkshire's best-known gritstone. Shipley Glen, between Bingley and Baildon, is a wooded, semi-urban bouldering venue on open-access land, with more than 400 problems in the UKC logbook. Its small holds and high, old-school problems are a test of technique.
Above Ilkley, the Cow and Calf quarry and the nearby Rocky Valley have almost 400 recorded climbs between them. Down the valley, Caley Crags above Otley has roadside boulders and a crag a short walk up the hill. The Yorkshire Mountaineering Club's Yorkshire Gritstone Volume 2: Ilkley to Widdop covers Ilkley and Shipley Glen.
Beginners and children
Bouldering at the Hub needs no experience or booking for adults, and children's walls make it a practical first wall for families, with under-fives welcome on them. For roped climbing, start with an auto-belay induction, which lets you climb without a partner, before moving on to top-rope and lead courses.
