Austin, Texas, United States
Austin Bouldering Project Springdale opened on Springdale Road in East Austin in 2015, the first Bouldering Project gym outside Washington state. Climbing Business Journal ranks it the seventh-largest bouldering gym in the US, with 17,458 sq ft of climbing surface, more than 250 problems and walls up to 17 ft high, in a facility the gym puts at 50,000 sq ft.
Problems are set in overlapping colour circuits rather than single grades, from yellow for first-timers up to mint at V11 and above, and a weekly setting schedule rotates fresh problems around the sections: a roof, long east, west and north walls, four freestanding boulders and a big central block with slab and steep sides. Inside that block is the training centre, with a Tension Board, other system boards and a hangboard station.
Passes include the yoga and fitness timetable, a functional training area with squat racks, free weights and cardio machines, and the co-working mezzanine. There is also a sauna and a cold plunge, locker rooms and outdoor patios. Shoes, chalk bags and crash pads can be hired at the front desk.
Newcomers can join the free one-hour Intro to Bouldering Project class or the two-hour Bouldering 1 technique class, and personal coaching is available. Seasonal after-school clubs cover ages 5 to 18, and the gym hosts Austin's Boulderfest competition, held in late September in 2026. Under-14s must be supervised by an adult, at most two per adult. Passes and memberships also cover the Westgate gym in South Austin, and parking is free.

“The upstairs lounge area is perfect for relaxing or getting some work done between sessions. If I had one small wish, it would be for them to serve freshly brewed coffee on-site…”
“Huge climbing area, well maintained and not too crowded even in peak hours. Routes are overall ok … but there could be a denser setting and divers somewhat limited.”
“I like ABP Springdale because the routes are fun and unlike other gyms doesn't just turn into crimps-only after you hit V3.”
