Seattle, Washington, United States
Poplar is the gym where Seattle Bouldering Project started in 2011, in a converted warehouse near Judkins Park in South Seattle. It is now one of four Bouldering Project gyms in the city and one of the largest bouldering gyms in the US, with 19,941 sq ft of climbing spread over two floors of a three-storey, 39,700 sq ft building. The walls, designed and built by Bouldering Project, reach 17 feet, and the whole floor is padded.
Problems are set in colour circuits rather than V-grades, an idea borrowed from the boulders of Fontainebleau: yellow, red and green for beginners, green to black for intermediate climbers, and blue, pink, white and mint for the strongest. The training centre has two Kilter Boards, two Moon Boards and a Tension Board 2.
Climbing classes run from a short introduction for first-timers to Bouldering 1 and the four-week Bouldering 2, alongside personal coaching and an adult team. Poplar hosts Seattle's Boulderfest competition, the Common Ground festival for women and non-binary climbers, and monthly climb nights with local community groups. Memberships cover all 13 Bouldering Project gyms in the US.

“The routes are overall kind of boring and lack flowy movements… There are two floors of bouldering so you are bound to find some that are enjoyable, but a lot of misses in my opinion.”
“I love the Poplar location for the variety of routes, ample space, clean amenities, and cafe on the first level of the gym.”
“…blew me away how big it is and how many areas you have to climb or workout. Parking can be a issue during peak times if you have to drive in.”
