Austin, Texas, United States
Mesa Rim Austin is the San Diego group's first gym in Texas, opened in 2023 in the Sheldon Cove development in north Austin. At around 50,000 sq ft it bills itself as the city's largest indoor climbing centre, with roped walls over 55 feet for top rope and lead, auto belays, a 15-metre IFSC speed wall and bouldering on walls of 12 to 18 feet, including an upstairs area and shorter walls on the mezzanine.
Bouldering needs only shoes and chalk, and new climbers can book a bouldering orientation or the guided intro package. Roped climbing needs the belay test: the one-hour belay lesson costs $10 and is free for members, and Learn to Climb costs $45 for members or $65 with a day pass and rental gear included. Leading needs the lead test and your own rope, and Intro to Lead and a Technique Series build those skills. Rental shoes cost $7, harnesses $6 or $10 together.
Passes include the yoga and fitness timetable in the studio, and the fitness area has Rogue racks, free weights, rowers, treadmills and spin bikes, plus hangboards and system boards. There are saunas and spa-style locker rooms, wifi workspaces and a pro shop. Youth programmes run from Rock Monsters and the Adventure Series to the Ascent, Vertical and Summit teams, with camps and birthday parties. The calendar includes an October bouldering league, the annual Gobbler Gripper endurance comp, USA Climbing youth events, GLAM nights for LGBTQ+ climbers, weekly Mesa Meetups and a monthly trivia night.

“The sport climbing routes are always super creative, and there’s something for every level. … I’m personally not the a fan of the bouldering there because it feels harder compared to other gyms”
“They don’t have a large children’s area but they do have a small bouldering area with fun kid friendly routes. They also offer a few beginner top rope options.”
“They now have auto belays and I've been climbing more than ever before in my life. The gym also has a yoga studio, fitness area, outdoor turf, sauna, upstairs bouldering, tons of classes and events”
