Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States
Minneapolis Bouldering Project opened in 2017 on West River Road in North Minneapolis, in a complex it shares with Pryes Brewing. Climbing Business Journal counts it among the largest bouldering gyms in the US, with 16,370 sq ft of climbing in a 39,700 sq ft building and walls up to 17 ft high. There are no ropes here: the teal walls include a freestanding top-out boulder, a roof, a slab and a separate youth area, and there are training boards and a spray wall too.
Problems are set in Bouldering Project's colour circuits rather than V grades, rising from yellow, red and green for beginners through purple, orange and black to blue, pink and white for the strongest climbers.
First-timers get an orientation, and a day pass also covers the hour-long Intro to Bouldering Project class, Bouldering 1 and the weekly Circuit Sessions. Memberships work at the St. Paul gym and every other Bouldering Project in the US. Youth programmes include after-school clubs, holiday camps, teams and birthday parties, and locally run clubs such as BIPOC Beta, OutClimb, Indigenous Climb and a 40+ bouldering club meet here every month. Parking is free in the lot shared with the brewery, and the Mississippi riverfront trail passes by for cyclists.

“I'm happy that membership provides an intro course to climbing, making it less daunting without any experience. Parking can be tough, especially since it's near Pryse…”
“…the route setting is fun, and the wooden sauna is especially nice in the winter. They host cool events and there's monthly meet ups for all sorts of identity groups…”
“Nice to hangout and watch him climb. He likes the community and encouragement he finds here. Only negative is the amount of chalk dust in the air.”
