Ålesund
Klatreklubben Ålesund climbs in Sparebanken Møre Arena on Sjømannsvegen, where its walls reach 22 m, with lead and top-rope routes, three auto-belay sectors, a course wall, a bouldering wall and a training loft. Visitors can drop in during the staffed hours on weekday evenings and Sundays in term time, and young people aged 6 to 19 can try climbing for free on Sunday afternoons; members get key-fob access from 06:00 to midnight. There are no staffed hours in the summer.
Buldrehallen Ålesund, on Lerstadveien, is an independent bouldering centre with 750 m² of climbing and about 120 problems that change often, a Moon wall and system walls, a children's room, a training room, a café and a well-stocked climbing shop.
On Harøya, in the north of Ålesund municipality, Harøy IL's climbing group runs a 360 m² climbing wall in I.P. Husehallen, the island's artificial-turf hall: a 12 m lead wall and two bouldering walls. You can climb on the group's supervised evenings, qualified climbers can drop in at other times, and harnesses, ropes and shoes are lent free.
Ulsteinvik
Klivrehallen, the roped climbing hall in Ulstein Arena, is run by the arena with the club Klivrelaget: climbers with a Brattkort can use it whenever the arena is open, and there are three auto-belays and a ticket that combines climbing with a swim. Across town, BuldreSiloen is Klivrelaget's bouldering gym in a converted silo, with about 180 m² of climbing over two floors on a 4 × 5 m footprint and a motorised MoonBoard. It's open 24 hours, and visitors pay at the door with a QR code and Vipps.
Volda and Ørsta
Sunnmørsk Klatreklubb, founded in 1974, runs two halls with rope walls and two auto-belays each: Volda Campus Arena, opened in 2021, which also has bouldering by its tall windows, and Ørstahallen, opened in 2019. Visitors can drop in on two evenings a week at each hall, when club staff belay and hire out gear, and the club's activity cards cover both halls.
Stranda
Stranda Buldresenter, by the ferry quay, was opened by local volunteers in 2023 and reopened in July 2025 under the activity company Uteguiden. It's a small, unstaffed bouldering room with a So iLL light-up board and grades with dialect names, open from 07:00 to 22:00 every day with a PIN code bought online.
Hundeidvik
In Hundeidvik, in Sykkylven municipality, Hundeidvikhallen has a roped wall and a bouldering wall beside its indoor football pitch. The hall is open from 07:00 to 23:00 every day: pay for a NOK 100 day ticket with Vipps, and make sure at least one climber in your party holds a top-rope card or a Brattkort, because the ropes are left hanging for anyone to use. The local club runs top-rope, Brattkort and lead courses several times a year.
Prices
In October 2026 an adult day ticket cost NOK 140 at Klatreklubben Ålesund and NOK 159 at Buldrehallen, NOK 130 at the Volda and Ørsta halls, NOK 110 to 120 at Klivrehallen and NOK 100 at Stranda and Hundeidvik. Bouldering needs no certificate, but roped climbing needs a Brattkort, Norway's belay certificate, and the clubs run courses and tests.
Climbing outdoors
Klatreklubben Ålesund keeps guides to the local crags, including Valderøya, Remme, Godøya and Vigra, and to bouldering at Raudnesvika on Sula, and in spring and summer it runs weekly club climbing outdoors. The guidebook for the region is Tommy Skeide's Sunnmøre – Frå Tindar til Kampesteinar (2018). Femrissveggen at Magerholm is closed at the landowner's request because of rockfall. Inland, the Sunnmøre Alps rise up to 1,700 m straight from Hjørundfjorden, and in summer a guided via ferrata climbs Aksla, the hill above Ålesund.
Further afield
Beyond Sunnmøre, Molde Klatresenter has a big bouldering hall and rope walls by the fjord, and Norsk Tindesenter in Åndalsnes has a 21 m wall at the gateway to Romsdalen and the Trollveggen. On the way, Tomrefjord IL opens its roped wall in Tomrefjord idrettsbygg in Vestnes to everyone on Monday evenings from mid-October to mid-March, with club belayers on duty and a NOK 100 drop-in. Klatreklubben Ålesund hosts a Møre-Romsdal Cup round at Sparebanken Møre Arena on 21 November 2026.
