Åndalsnes, Møre og Romsdal, Norway
Carls Hall is the climbing hall inside Norsk Tindesenter, the Norwegian mountaineering centre that opened by the harbour in Åndalsnes in May 2016. Its tallest wall is 21 m high, one of the highest indoor climbing walls in Norway, and one ticket covers both the climbing hall and the centre's mountaineering museum.
Drop-in climbing is available whenever the centre's restaurant, Tindestua, is open, and members can also climb outside opening hours; memberships are bought at reception, which is staffed on weekdays from 10:00 to 17:00 and at weekends from 10:00 to 16:00. Everyone who climbs fills in a liability form. Belaying on top-rope needs a Topptaukort or a Brattkort, and on lead a Brattkort, which you show when buying a ticket; the centre runs Brattkort courses. Children under 13 must be supervised by an adult, and to use the auto-belays you must be over 13 and hold a belay card, or climb with a card holder. Shoes, harnesses, ropes and belay devices can be hired, and the centre also offers climbing sessions for companies and groups, guided mountain trips and the Via Ferrata Åndalsnes.
