Climbing in I.P. Husehallen

I.P. Husehallen is the 69 by 42 metre artificial-turf hall at Huse on Harøya, between the school and the kindergarten. It was finished in 2009 as a gift from I.P. Huse to the people of what was then Sandøy municipality. The climbing wall, 360 square metres in all, went up in 2018; the municipality owns it and Harøy IL's climbing group runs it. Ålesund municipality's list of sports halls still describes the wall as used by Harøy IL in 2026.

The roped lead wall is 21 metres wide and 12 metres high. Two lower bouldering walls, 11 metres wide by 4.5 metres high and 11.5 metres by 3.5 metres, have thick mats and are climbed without ropes.

Visiting and rules

You can climb on the group's supervised evenings, and outside them climbers with the right qualifications can drop in, as can members with an annual card. Pay by Vipps. Harnesses, ropes, belay devices and shoes are lent free of charge, and the group runs top-rope and lead courses.

Everyone signs a liability form, and parents sign for under-18s. An adult with a lead belay card (Brattkort led) must be present whenever the lead wall is in use; leading needs a lead card for both climber and belayer, and top-rope belayers need at least a top-rope course. Children under 15 climb only under the direct supervision of an adult, the minimum age on the roped walls is five, and loose chalk isn't allowed.
