Ørsta, Møre og Romsdal, Norway
Sunnmørsk Klatreklubb (SKK), founded in 1974 and with over 900 members one of Norway's largest climbing clubs, runs two halls: this climbing wall in Ørstahallen, the sports hall in Ørsta, which opened in 2019, and a newer hall in Volda Campus SpareBank 1 Arena. The Ørsta hall has rope walls with two auto-belays, and it holds the club's guidebook library for members.
Non-members can climb at drop-in sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 17:00 to 20:00. Club staff are on duty then: they belay climbers, hire out harnesses, shoes and belay devices, and let you practise belaying. At other times, non-members can come along with a member who has a key card and pay the drop-in price by Vipps. The hall shuts for four weeks in summer (30 June to 27 July) and on 24, 25 and 31 December and 1 January. Children under 14 must climb with an adult present, and 14 to 17-year-olds need a parent's permission.
Anyone may climb, but only climbers with a Brattkort or a top-rope card may belay. SKK runs basic courses with a Brattkort test, refresher courses and top-rope courses. Members with an activity card, which covers both halls, can order a key card (age 15 and over) for access from 08:00 to 22:00 on weekdays and from 08:00 to 21:00 at weekends.
