K1 Kletterhalle Dornbirn
K1 Kletterhalle Dornbirn is the place in Vorarlberg for climbing on a rope. It has 2,600 m² of walls with about 250 routes from UIAA 3 to 11, including a 17-metre competition wall with a 15-metre overhang, a 600 m² instruction area with 12-metre walls and a 600 m² outdoor wall 15 metres high. There's a bouldering cave, two speed lanes and three more auto-belays, and a panorama bistro looking over the hall. On weekday mornings, before the desk opens at 13:00, you need a pass or an online ticket.
Bouldering halls
Greifbar Bregenz opened in 2019 in an old factory hall on the Hajek site near the River Ach. Its eight wall areas, one of them outdoors in a shaded garden, are each reset at least once a week, often with a guest setter, and there's a Kilter Board and a bar-restaurant next door. The same team runs a hall across Lake Constance in Friedrichshafen, and its multi-visit cards work in both.
Steinblock has two halls here. Steinblock Dornbirn opened in 2020 in a former textile warehouse, with 1,200 m² of walls built from local laminated timber, and Steinblock Rankweil, in the town's business park, has 800 m². Both have a Kilter Board, a MoonBoard, a children's adventure area and a café. You can get in from 06:00 with an online ticket or a card, and Steinblock's multi-visit and time cards work in all its halls.
Block Monkey, in Feldkirch-Gisingen, has about 500 m² of bouldering, a covered outdoor area, a children's wall with a slide and a bistro, plus a small roped area for top-roping and leading, with a self-belay device for climbing alone. New problems go up every Thursday, and with an online ticket you can climb from 06:00 to 22:30 every day.
Klimmerei, in Bürs next to Bludenz, calls itself Vorarlberg's first boulder park. It has around 120 problems, a Tension Board 2, a Treadwall, an extra-large campus board and a children's area, and entry is automated from 06:00 to 22:00. Nearby, the Alpenverein Vorarlberg's Boulderhalle Bludenz at its head office is open to non-members: single tickets are sold from Monday to Thursday, 08:00 to 15:00, and chip-card holders can climb every day from 06:00 to 22:00.
Club halls and smaller walls
The Alpenverein's district groups run two more. KletterWald in Egg, in the Bregenzerwald, is a roped hall under the Mittelschule, with about 500 m² of walls, 12-metre lead routes from 4a to 8a, two auto-belays and a bouldering cave. Tickets are sold only online, nobody checks your skills, and you need your own gear. In Feldkirch-Gisingen, the Boulderraum Feldkirch is a 160 m² bouldering room under the Volksschule Oberau, open every evening and all day at weekends, with no day tickets: you register for a chip and buy a pass of one to twelve months.
Further into the mountains, Boulderox in Sibratsgfäll is a small unstaffed bouldering room with over 30 problems and a children's area, open from 06:00 to 22:00 with an online ticket and a digital key, and the sport.park.lech leisure centre in Lech am Arlberg has sport-climbing and bouldering areas.
Passes and prices
Friction, a monthly pass in the apptive app, costs €89 a month and covers unlimited visits to K1, Greifbar, Block Monkey, Klimmerei and Steinblock's bouldering halls in Dornbirn and Rankweil. Block Monkey and Klimmerei also sell a joint annual Combi Card, and the 3TälerPass annual card includes K1 and Klimmerei.
In October 2026 an adult day ticket cost €17.30 at K1 (€13.30 for bouldering only), €11 at KletterWald Egg, €13.50 at Greifbar, €14.80 at Block Monkey, Klimmerei and the Steinblock halls, €12 in Bludenz and €9.80 at Boulderox. Members of the Alpenverein, the Naturfreunde and the Kletterverband Vorarlberg pay less at K1, and Alpenverein members pay less in Bludenz, Egg and Feldkirch.
Beginners, children and belaying
No hall in Vorarlberg asks for a Kletterschein, but you're responsible for belaying safely. K1's rules require a partner check before every roped climb and only belay devices you know how to use, and Block Monkey's staff don't check belaying skills, so learn on a course first. Bouldering needs no experience; children under 14 must climb with an adult, and teenagers usually need a parent's signed consent form. Read what Austrian halls ask of roped climbers.
Competitions
Vorarlberg's climbing federation, the Kletterverband Vorarlberg, is based at K1. Its Boulder Rallye series moves between the bouldering halls, and K1 has a long tradition of youth competitions: in July 2026 it hosted a round of World Climbing's Europe Youth Series, with 232 climbers from 25 nations, and its annual Nikoloklettern takes place on 5 December. Klimmerei holds the Mini Move Master for young climbers on 7 November 2026.
Climbing outdoors in Vorarlberg
The Känzele above Bregenz has more than 400 mostly bolted routes in every grade on red sandstone and conglomerate. It faces south, so it's climbable in winter. In the Rhine valley, Koblach has about 100 short-approach routes, mostly sixth and seventh grade, and there are harder crags above Hohenems. Near Bludenz, the Hängender Stein has about 250 routes of up to three pitches, five minutes from the car, and the Bürser Schlucht has shady conglomerate routes for summer. The Bregenzerwald adds limestone at Schwarzenberg and the Mittagfluh near Au. See our guide to outdoor climbing in Austria.
