Feldkirch, Vorarlberg, Austria
Block Monkey is a bouldering hall in Feldkirch-Gisingen with around 500 m² of bouldering on walls up to 4.5 metres, plus about 100 m² of top-rope and lead walls, which makes it the only bouldering hall in the area with roped climbing. A TOPPAS self-belay device lets you top-rope on your own. There's also a training area, a covered outdoor bouldering area beside the terrace and a children's climbing wall with a slide and play area. New problems go up every Thursday, set by the hall's team and guest setters.
The café and bistro serves coffee, beer, pizza, Flammkuchen and fresh fruit, with seats in the hall, on the terrace and in a quieter lounge, and there's a small shop.
With an online ticket, a pass chip or the apptive app you can climb every day from 06:00 to 22:30. The cash desk and bistro are usually staffed from 15:00 to 22:30 on weekdays, 14:00 to 18:00 on Saturdays and 10:00 to 18:00 on Sundays, and online tickets are valid for 16 hours. Register before your first climb. Under-7s must be supervised by a parent and 7- to 14-year-olds need an adult with them, though 12- to 14-year-olds can climb alone with a parent's consent form. Staff don't check whether climbers can belay, so learn first or book instruction, and do a partner check before every roped climb. There's a free introduction to bouldering, and state-certified instructors run bouldering and climbing courses from beginner to advanced, children's courses, holiday camps, birthday parties and courses on real rock. Crash pads can be hired for outdoor bouldering, with a guide on request.

“Small, but well equipped bouldering gym, super friendly staff and open community. Routesetting variates, some setters have there preferred moves... Also two tension boards and an outside area.”
