Bregenz, Vorarlberg, Austria
Greifbar Bregenz is a bouldering hall in an old industrial hall on the Hajek site, a short walk from the River Ach and Lake Constance. Its problems, up to 4.5 metres high, are spread over eight wall areas, one of them an outdoor wall in a shaded garden with seating, and the training area has a Kilter Board. Every wall area is reset at least once a week, usually on Mondays, by the hall's own setting team and a different guest setter each week. Holds of one colour make a problem, and cards at the start grade it from level 1 to 8, with a "?" joker for anything from 3 to 7. A children's area is being built.
Right next to the hall is a bar and restaurant serving pizza, Flammkuchen and regional organic food, with homemade burgers on Thursdays, and there's a shop selling Greifbar clothing. The same team runs Greifbar Friedrichshafen across the lake in Germany.
The hall is staffed from 15:00 on weekdays and from 10:00 at weekends and on public holidays. Between 06:00 and 15:00 on weekdays, adults with a Greifbar pass or card, or a check-in through Wellpass, Hansefit, Fitpass or Friction, can let themselves in by self check-in, in pairs only. Children under 14 must be supervised by an adult, and 14- to 17-year-olds need a consent form signed by a parent on their first visit. Lockers in the changing rooms are free with your own padlock, and shoes and chalk can be hired. Courses cover bouldering for adults, Fit & Balanced sessions, children and young people, birthday parties, school classes and holiday camps.
