Egg, Vorarlberg, Austria
KletterWald is the climbing hall run by the Alpenverein's Egg district group in the Bregenzerwald. It's a room of its own beside the triple sports hall of the Mittelschule Egg, two floors below ground, with about 500 m² of climbing surface that serves the school's sport lessons as well as club and public climbing. The 12-metre lead walls hold 20 lines with around 45 routes from 4a to 8a (French grades), and the setters change them regularly. Two Toppas auto-belays are there mainly for school classes, and a bouldering cave in the same room, with a campus board and a system wall, takes care of strength training. In September 2026 the hall hosted a Vorarlberg state championship.
Use the school's evening entrance. Register before your first visit and buy tickets from the online shop only: there's no internet reception in the hall, so print the ticket or keep a screenshot, and scan it at the barcode reader when you arrive. The hall doesn't check anyone's skills, so you need to be able to climb and belay, and to bring your own gear, as rental equipment is only for courses and supervised sessions. Under-18s climb with a supervising adult, though 14- to 17-year-olds may come on their own with a parent's written consent. The hall closes for a summer break, most recently from 1 August to 12 September.
The club runs courses for children and adults, from first steps on the wall to the indoor climbing certificate, and a weekly Monday climbing meet that moves between this hall, K1 in Dornbirn and the crags.
