San Rafael, California, United States
The Gravity Vault Marin is the California branch of The Gravity Vault, an indoor climbing chain founded in New Jersey in 2005 whose other gyms are in the north-east. It is on Smith Ranch Road in north San Rafael, and day passes and memberships cover climbing, yoga and fitness.
There are about 18,000 sq ft of climbing, with more than 200 top-rope and lead routes, seven auto-belays for climbing without a partner, and over 150 boulder problems on 4,000 sq ft of bouldering spread over two levels. Two 10-metre speed walls and an adjustable LED Kilter board add training options, and the building is air-conditioned and heated. Climbers aged 14 and over can take a free top-rope belay test with a Grigri, and those 16 and over can take a lead test.
