Sacramento, California, United States
Sacramento Pipeworks opened in 2001 as Touchstone Climbing's first gym outside the Bay Area. It fills a brick and steel building just north of downtown that was built in 1923 for Sacramento Pipe & Steel Works, and the old trusses and tall industrial windows still frame the walls. Since opening it has grown a much larger bouldering area and a fitness area, and Touchstone's Pintworks taproom and restaurant shares the site.
Away from the walls there are free weights, machines, Olympic lifting and cardio equipment, a dry sauna, showers, lockers and a pro shop. Yoga and fitness classes are included for members, and the gym runs intro classes, technique and lead clinics, private lessons, youth camps and teams, and monthly affinity meetups. Membership covers every Touchstone gym in California. There is a large car park beside the building, indoor and outdoor bike parking, and the gym is wheelchair accessible.

“Ropes wall? Old school and super featured design 10/10. Boulders? Large modern walls with fun problems 10/10. Large free weight/crossfit area, great gym area, lots of cardio options.”
“Super friendly staff atmosphere. Easy to talk to people and make friends. Free events all the time. … Only downside is the building doesn’t have air conditioning so it gets a little hot in the summer”
“The gym is very nice but the bouldering Mats and crash pads are very dirty and smelly. You see a dust cloud form around someone when they fall. … But overall very solid gym.”
