9 Degrees Morningside is the second Brisbane gym of 9 Degrees, the bouldering brand that began in Sydney in 2015. It has been open since 1 July 2023 in a unit at 500 Lytton Road, about 15 minutes from the city centre, and it's fully air-conditioned. Problems on the teal and white walls are colour-coded across nine levels, set out on a strip by the entrance: yellow to start, then light blue, blue, purple, green, pink, red and black, with white the hardest. The setters put up new climbs every Monday and Wednesday, and the walls reach 4.5 metres, with down-climb holds at the top of every problem and deep matting below.
For training there's a 12 x 12 ft Kilter Board whose angle is adjusted by remote, and space for weights and functional training. Barista-made coffee and food are sold at the front desk.
Coaching comes from Motion Climbing, 9 Degrees Brisbane's coaching partner, with beginner group sessions that alternate weekly between Morningside and Enoggera, and one-to-one sessions. The gym hosts qualifying rounds of Grip & Rip, 9 Degrees Brisbane's yearly comp, and has run K2 PumpFest comps.

“For a climbing gym, not bad. However the high walls, big distances between holds, majority overhang... it's not very inclusive for different climbing styles and it's also on the small side.”
“started here about 2 months ago, staff and community are all so friendly which makes being a beginner (and going alone mostly) so much less daunting.”
“Refreshing setting, awesome vibes, aircon, free chalk and lots of dogs! … the coffee is a bonus too!”
