Reno, Nevada, United States
Mesa Rim Reno is the Nevada branch of Mesa Rim, the climbing gym group that began in Mira Mesa, San Diego, in 2010. It opened in 2017 in a 24,000 sq ft building on Harvard Way, built from the ground up, just west of Highway 395 near the Grand Sierra Resort. The roped walls rise to 52 feet, with dihedrals, overhangs and four crack systems, and a separate bouldering area has walls of 14 to 16 feet.
Bouldering needs no partner or certification, and new visitors can ask for a free gym tour and a 15-minute bouldering orientation. To climb the tall walls you need a partner who has passed the top-rope belay test: the one-hour belay lesson costs $9, is free for members and is open to ages 14 and up. Leading requires the gym's lead test and your own rope of at least 35 metres. Courses run from Learn to Climb and Intro to Lead to crack climbing, outdoor skills and self-rescue, and there are adult training teams and private coaching.
Every pass includes the yoga and fitness timetable. The fitness area has Rogue racks, free weights, rowers, treadmills and spin bikes, plus hangboards and system boards, and there are locker rooms with showers and a sauna, wifi workspaces and a pro shop. Memberships carry no long-term contract and include day access at every Mesa Rim gym. Youth programmes run from Mini Monsters for ages 4 to 6 to competitive teams, and the calendar includes USA Climbing youth events, the annual Sierra Sendathon, Queer Climb Night and sensory-friendly mornings.

“Mesa Rim Reno has been, by far, the most welcoming and encouraging climbing environment to be a member at… the facilities are well kept, the routes are constantly being updated”
“Really nice facility. Awesome sauna. Idk if its reno or its how climbing is these days. Ive barely spoken a word to anyone in this gym in over 4 months.”
