Perth hosts the first National Boulder Cup: results and what's next

Portside Boulders in Osborne Park hosted the first National Boulder Cup on 25–27 September 2026, with the WA Open Boulder Titles run inside it. Olivia Hawryluk and Maxim Pare won the open finals, and WA's lead titles follow at Oasis Climbing on 7–8 November.

Perth hosted what Sport Climbing WA billed as the first National Boulder Cup from 25 to 27 September 2026, at Portside Boulders in Osborne Park. The state body thanked Sport Climbing Australia for running the WA Open Boulder Titles as part of the event, so Western Australia's best boulderers competed for a national cup and their state title on the same weekend, alongside climbers from South Australia and Victoria. Here are the results, and the competitions still to come in WA this season.

How the Cup ran

The weekend opened on the Friday evening with a boulder jam for the Open B, Open C and Masters categories. The Open A competition followed on the Saturday and Sunday in a World Cup-style format, with qualification, semi-final and final rounds. The Open A rankings list 22 women and 34 men, and one climber was ranked in the Inclusive A category.

The venue is the second of Portside's four Perth gyms, opened in 2019. Its bouldering is spread over five sectors, Prow, Star, Harbour, Stern and Port, and it already hosts Portside's own flagship competition, West Coast Blocs, each August.

Results

Women: Olivia Hawryluk of Western Australia won the final, ahead of South Australia's Niamh Alldred and Jordyn Damasco (WA). Isabella Moeller and Anna Davey, both from WA, were fourth and fifth.

Men: Maxim Pare won from Daniel Spies and Aiden Yanev, a West Australian one-two-three. Brody Cowell (WA) was fourth and Victoria's Lachlan Sund fifth.

Inclusive A: Tsz Kiu Pang of Victoria was the only climber ranked.

That gave WA climbers five of the six Open A podium places. In the Friday jam, Zak Hogen-Esch and May Foo won the men's and women's Masters categories.

Western Australia's state titles

Sport Climbing WA, the state body affiliated to Sport Climbing Australia, runs three state championships, and all of them qualify climbers for national competition. The WA Youth Boulder State Titles were held at Adrenaline Vault Cockburn on 22 and 23 August 2026, as the selection event for the 2027 Youth National Bouldering Championships. The WA Open Boulder Titles have been a separate event since 2025, and this year they ran inside the Cup.

Next come the 2026 WA Lead State Titles, on 7 and 8 November at Oasis Climbing on Harris Road in Malaga. Categories run from U13, climbed on top rope, through U15, U17, U19 and U21 to Open A, Open B and Masters, and the event selects climbers for the 2027 Youth and Open National Lead Championships. Entries are made through Sport Climbing Australia, cost $65 to $85 at the standard rate and close on 3 November, and spectators are welcome. There will be no speed titles: Sport Climbing WA says it can't run a speed competition until the state has a wall that meets World Climbing's rules. Sport Climbing WA's annual general meeting is set for 1 November.
