High Point Cleveland

High Point Climbing and Fitness built its Cleveland gym on Keith Street NW as its first location focused on bouldering and training, about 30 miles east of Chattanooga. Climbing Business Journal reported plans for a 12,000 sq ft bouldering-only gym in 2019; High Point now describes 14,000 sq ft of indoor bouldering.

Climbing and training

The walls hold more than 100 boulder problems, and the training area has fully adjustable Kilter and Tension boards. A Kids Zone with colourful auto-belay walls suits younger and first-time climbers. Apart from those auto-belays it is a bouldering-only gym, so top-rope and lead climbing mean a trip to High Point's Chattanooga gyms.

Programmes

  • Youth: recreational clubs, development and competition teams, holiday camps for children aged 5 to 14, and birthday parties
  • Schools: an interscholastic league for middle and high school teams, run as a round-robin season from November to February
  • Coaching and guiding: personal coaching, and outdoor guiding with AMGA Single Pitch Instructors
  • Child care: a members' child-care service, so parents can climb while children are looked after
  • Weekly offers: Ladies Night on Thursdays, Student Night on Fridays and a Sunday evening special, all with half-price day passes

Passes

A day pass costs $24, or $31 with shoes and harness. A Cleveland-only membership is $69 a month, and the $84 multi-gym membership covers every High Point gym in Tennessee and Alabama.

- Weekly offers: Mondays and Tuesdays, buy one day pass and get a second half price (Family Nights, Friends Climb Nights); Thursdays after 16:00, half-price day passes for women (Ladies Night); Fridays after 16:00, half-price day passes and free gear hire for students (Student Night, college students show ID); Sundays 17:00 - 20:00, half-price day passes (Sunday Special)

- Homeschool Day, second Thursday of the month 10:00 - 16:00: half-price day passes for homeschool students and parents

- Gear hire: package (shoes and harness) $7; shoes $5; harness $4; chalk bag $3

- Members' guests: first visit free, then 50% off

- Cleveland only, billed monthly; one-month minimum, then cancel any time before the next billing date; no membership access at other High Point gyms, but half-price day passes there

- Multi-gym (every High Point gym in Tennessee and Alabama, limited access to Orlando): $84 a month ($112 with gear)

- Full-time students 24 and under, seniors 55+, military, police, fire and EMS: $62 Cleveland only, $72 multi-gym

- Family: $119 for two Cleveland only or $144 multi-gym, plus $29 for each additional member

- Prepaid annual: $779 Cleveland only, $949 multi-gym ($689 and $799 for students, seniors and personnel)

- Dues plus tax where applicable; paying by card adds a 2.2% monthly service fee
