SoCal Bouldering is the newest of Calgary Climbing Centre's five gyms and its only bouldering-only one. It opened in 2022 on Shawville Link SE in Shawnessy, behind The Brick and across from Somerset-Bridlewood C-Train station. Around 100 problems cover steep, vertical and slab terrain, with new problems set every week, and the gym is open to climbers aged 7 and over.
Four adjustable-angle walls, a Kilter Board, a Tension Board, a Kilter Home board and a spray wall, sit alongside a large training area with a campus board, fingerboards, weights, cardio equipment and space to stretch. The café serves hot and cold drinks and snacks, with free wifi, and the retail shop stocks shoes, crash pads and clothing. There is plenty of parking. Shoes and chalk bags can be hired. Everyone signs an online waiver before climbing, and children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
Memberships cover either SoCal alone or every Calgary Climbing Centre location.

“Solid gym. Friendly staff and innovative layout. Setting is overall good but grading is inconsistent at the lower levels, making the gym less beginner-friendly.”
“10/10 great place with friendly staff and awesome snacks… The frequent changes of routes keeps it fresh.”
“The gym was a very nice facility, with a great layout. I love how the training boards are in the middle, in a very space-saving way… The only thing I noticed was that the gym felt dirty.”
