Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Rocky Mountain is the tallest of Calgary Climbing Centre's five gyms, a purpose-built centre of about 24,500 sq ft on West Valley Road SW, just west of the Canada Olympic Park ski hill. It opened in May 2018. Its roped walls rise to 65 ft for top-rope and lead climbing, and there is a dedicated speed wall, an outdoor climbing wall on the front of the building and about 150 ft of bouldering wall.
The building also houses one of the centre's two ClimbParks: a supervised fun zone of 24 climbing challenges, including floating cubes, a maze wall, a spider web and speed walls, open to climbers aged 4 and over. There is a workout area and a pro shop, and shoes, harnesses, belay devices and chalk bags can be hired. Everyone signs an online waiver before climbing, and children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
Memberships cover either a single gym or every Calgary Climbing Centre location. Rocky Mountain hosts Alberta Climbing Association provincial championships, including speed in December 2026 and youth ropes in March 2027.

“You give one days notice for events… Sure the public is “allowed to climb”, but can we really? The kids just go back to back and we have no opportunity to boulder.”
“The facility is very well set out and very large. It has endless configurations of climbing challenges. You can learn to climb very safely here, or become a more proficient climber.”
