Gravity Climbing Gym
Gravity, on Frid Street, has 56 roped lines 40 to 50 feet high, 26 of them bolted for lead, and a lead-only wall of four routes that is 50 feet high and overhangs by 40 feet. There are also five bouldering areas with more than 75 problems, a MoonBoard and a workout space. New climbers can book Indoor Rock 101, a belay lesson that cost $35 with a day pass and rentals in October 2026, or guided Climb Only sessions, and there's a lead course. Youth programmes start at age 4, Team Gravity trains young competitors, and G-Force is a team for adults. There's parking on site.
World Cup history
In June 2013 Gravity hosted the second Canadian round of the IFSC Bouldering World Cup, billed as the Toronto World Cup. Austria's Kilian Fischhuber and Anna Stöhr won, and Stöhr was the only woman to top the fourth problem. Gravity's owners opened a sister gym, Gravity Niagara in St. Catharines, in 2019, and a multi-gym membership covers both.
McMaster University
McMaster's Feather Family Climbing Gym, in the Pulse Fitness Centre at the David Braley Athletic Centre, has six 36-foot top-rope climbs and a 45-foot-long bouldering wall. It's free for full-time McMaster students and members of the athletic centre, and there's no public day pass.
Gyms nearby
Climber's Rock in Burlington, opposite Appleby GO station, has top-rope, lead and auto-belay walls and bouldering, plus a Boards & Weights room that adult members can use 24 hours a day. Aspire Climbing Milton moved into a bigger building in December 2025, with bouldering, Tension and Kilter boards, a ninja course and a café. In Brantford, Conquer Climbing Centre has 3,600 sq ft of bouldering on 16-foot walls, reset weekly, four auto-belays and a Kilter Board, and its members get half-price day passes at Grand River Rocks.
Prices
In October 2026 an adult day pass at Gravity cost $19.47 plus tax, or $17.70 for climbers aged 22 and under, and a monthly membership $70, or $90 to use both Gravity gyms. Nearby, a day pass cost $23 at Conquer, $27 at Climber's Rock ($22 off-peak) and $28 at Aspire Milton, and Gravity Niagara charged $8.85 for weekday visits before 15:00.
Climbing outdoors
Hamilton sits on the Niagara Escarpment, but its own cliffs aren't for climbing. The Hamilton Conservation Authority asks visitors to stay on the trails and not to climb or bypass the fencing at Spencer Gorge, where a visitor died in a fall in 2019, and the Ontario Alliance of Climbers lists no crags around the city. The nearest climbing is in Halton: Mount Nemo, 17 km north in Burlington, has hundreds of sport and trad routes but no top-roping, and Rattlesnake Point near Milton, 24 km away, allows top-roping from its installed anchors. Bouldering in the Niagara Glen needs an annual permit from Niagara Parks. See outdoor climbing near Toronto for the rules at each crag.
Competitions
Gravity hosts the Ontario Climbing Federation's lead provincials for under-17 to under-21 climbers on 27 March 2027, and Gravity Niagara holds an under-17 to under-21 bouldering event on 6 and 7 February 2027. For more gyms to the east, see climbing in Oakville.
