About

A new climbing gym in Meriam Park

The Stack Chico is a 17,000 sq ft climbing and fitness gym on Market Place in Meriam Park, Chico. It opened to climbers on 22 August 2026 after more than two years of work, and held its grand opening on 3 October. It is a sister gym of The Stack Davis and The Boulder Field in Sacramento, and members can climb at both.

The climbing

Most of the space is roped: about 8,000 sq ft of walls up to 45 ft tall for top-rope and lead climbing, alongside 4,000 sq ft of bouldering. The founder, professional climber Carlo Traversi, designed the walls, which were built by Walltopia over flooring by Flashed. There are no auto-belays, so rope climbers need a partner who has passed the gym's belay check. For training there is a 12 ft by 12 ft adjustable LED Tension Board 2 and two cardio and weight areas, and families have a dedicated kids' climbing area and a birthday party room.

What climbers say about The Stack Chico

4.8 out of 5from 6 reviews on Google

“…the climbing routes are quite steep (there's no slab climbing, nothing to do about that). The routes are organized by colors instead of labeling what it actually is (e.g., 5.9, 5.10...)…”

Google review,

“Climbed at this gym for the first time today. All the routes were really fun and and facility was amazing!”

Google review,

“There is no auto belay systems, so if folks want to rope climb they need to have someone with them that is belay certified (it’s a ~10minute test).”
