Studio Vertikal Klatresenter

Studio Vertikal is a full climbing centre at Kokstad in the south of Bergen, about five minutes' walk from the Kokstadflaten light-rail stop, with parking right outside. Bouldering, roped climbing, auto-belays and a training area are all under one roof, and the setters aim to replace every route and boulder in roughly ten weeks.

Climbing

• Bouldering: around 85 problems at every grade, from technical slabs to steep walls.
• Rope: 24 top-rope and lead routes on walls nearly 9 m high. Belayers need a Topptaukort or Brattkort for top-rope and a Brattkort for lead; the centre runs top-rope and lead courses and Brattkort tests.
• Auto-belay: 15 auto-belays with about 50 routes, which you can use after a short briefing from staff (minimum weight 10 kg).
• Training: a Kilter Board adjustable from 15° to 60°, a Tension Board 2 Spray at 40°, a 30° spray wall with a replica of Burden of Dreams (about 8B), free weights, a rowing machine and a stretching and yoga area.

Visiting

Drop-in needs no booking: buy entry at reception or in the GoActive app. Shoes, harnesses, chalk, ropes and belay devices can be hired, and crash pads can be rented for outdoor bouldering. Under-13s must climb with an adult present. There are changing rooms, a big café, a climbing shop and a children's room, plus climbing groups for children from age 4, birthday parties, senior climbing on Thursday mornings, yoga for climbers and team-building sessions for companies.
