Climbing at Sammen's student sports centre at Fantoft: three rope walls, the main one 12 m high with up to 40 routes, plus auto-belay and a bouldering room. The centre is open to everyone, climbing is included in membership and bouldering needs no Brattkort.

About

Trene Sammen Fantoft

Trene Sammen Fantoft is a sports centre run by Sammen, the student welfare organisation for western Norway, next to the Fantoft light-rail stop in Bergen. Besides a large gym, a group exercise studio, a sports hall, squash courts, a golf simulator and a sauna, it has climbing walls and a bouldering room. The centre is open to non-students too, and climbing is included in membership.

Climbing

  • Rope: three rope-climbing walls; the main wall is 12 m high with up to 40 routes at all levels.
  • Auto-belay: available on the rope walls.
  • Bouldering: a bouldering room with problems for all levels.

Visiting

Rope climbing needs a Brattkort, the Norwegian belay certificate, shown on your harness; without one you can only climb with a hired instructor or an adult who holds one, and a liability form must be filled in each time. Bouldering doesn't need a certificate. Sammen runs weekend beginner courses here and at Lehmkuhl, and climbers who already have the skills can arrange a Brattkort test with Fantoft's reception. A climbing group for 12 to 16-year-olds meets here on Thursday evenings. Members' children up to 14 climb free with a parent who has a Brattkort. Reception is staffed from 08:00 on weekdays and 09:00 at weekends until 22:00, and members can use the centre from 06:00.

- Children aged 13–15 train free with a parent who is a member (one child per parent)

- Youth climbing group (ages 12–16, Thursdays 17:00–19:00): NOK 2,450 a semester, instructors and equipment included

Membership
NOK 709a month

- Rolling membership for non-students, minimum two months, one month's notice

- With a 12-month commitment: NOK 609 a month; one month paid up front NOK 809; 12 months paid up front NOK 7,308

- Students: NOK 359 a month (NOK 259 with a 12-month commitment)

- Day membership (before 14:00 on weekdays, all day at weekends), also for pupils over 15 and pensioners: NOK 609 a month (NOK 509 with a 12-month commitment)

- NOK 79 admin fee unless you join online

- Valid at all Sammen centres in Bergen except Studentsenteret
