Sterling, Virginia, United States
Sportrock's Sterling gym on Maries Road has been climbing since at least 2006 and is one of the company's four centres in Virginia and Maryland. It combines tall roped walls with a recently renovated bouldering area, a fitness floor and a yoga studio, and there is free parking outside.
The fitness area has a Rogue rack, free weights, treadmills, stair steppers and rowers, and the yoga studio hosts daily fitness and yoga classes, which are free for members. The Jackson Clinics offer climbing-specific physical therapy on site, and there are party rooms, a gear shop, showers and lockers.
Classes run from Intro to Climbing and belay lessons to lead climbing and technique clinics, and children can join Breakfast Club sessions, youth programmes and the youth climbing team. Monthly meet-ups include Girl Beta for women, Fruity Pebbles for LGBTQIA+ climbers, Latine Climb Night with Escala DC, Vertical Vets, LevelUp! for climbers aged roughly 45 to 70 and sensory-friendly sessions. Up ENDing Parkinson's, a non-profit founded at Sportrock, runs guided sessions for people with Parkinson's disease on Tuesday and Saturday mornings.

“This gym is our go to place for climbing! There is a variety of climbing walls for people of all abilities. We especially love the new renovations that were just completed…”
“…There is a nice balance between bouldering and top rope, and the routes are reset at a nice frequency. The community is so supportive and it's easy to make friends if you come consistently.”
“…the bathrooms were a little dirty around the sinks and the bouldering wall were smaller. Wish there more options. (Being picky, I know) And maybe add one more Auto Baley? Two might not be enough.”
