Sportrock opened its Lorton gym in summer 2026 as the company's first bouldering-only centre. It fills a historic brick building in the Liberty complex on Power House Road, where tall arched windows light the climbing hall.
The climbing is all bouldering on white walls and free-standing boulders, so the only kit to hire is shoes. Problems are graded with Sportrock's colour circuits, from magenta (VB to V0) up to black (V10 and harder), and are reset by the team of setters who work across all of Sportrock's gyms. A hangboard rig and a wooden campus board cover finger training.
The 2,000 sq ft fitness area in the basement has treadmills, stair climbers, ellipticals and bikes, free weights, a squat rack, a bench press, a functional trainer and a lat pulldown, plus kettlebells, plyo boxes and a full yoga studio. Yoga and fitness classes are free for members, and The Jackson Clinics and TJC Concierge provide climber-specific physical therapy as the gym's sports medicine partners.
New climbers get two free foundational classes, and there are technique clinics, youth programmes, camps and teams. Meet-ups include Girl Beta for women, Fruity Pebbles for LGBTQIA+ climbers, Vertical Vets and a weekly members' evening, and Sportrock Climbing Guides runs outdoor community days and guided trips. Membership also covers Sportrock's other gyms, including the tall rope walls at Sportrock Alexandria, about 20 minutes away.
