Brisbane, Queensland, Australia
Rocksports Indoor Climbing is the roped climbing gym at 224 Barry Parade in Fortitude Valley, and bills itself as Brisbane's “O.G.” indoor climbing gym. Where most of the city's newer gyms are built for bouldering, Rocksports is built around ropes: about 30 walls for top-roping, lead climbing and auto belays, with more than 100 climbs and new ones set every week, plus a low bouldering room. The hall is now air-conditioned.
New climbers complete a safety induction before they climb, and belayers must be 14 or older. Beginners aged 16 and up can join the Fun-damentals class on Monday evenings, an eight-week Learn to Lead course runs once enough people register interest, and junior classes for 12 to 18-year-olds run on Thursday and Friday afternoons in school term. Monday nights are social nights, a good way to meet climbing partners.
Memberships are billed weekly with no lock-in contract and include shoe and harness hire and every class; casual visitors pay for entry and hire separately. Groups of up to eight can walk in without booking.

“Unlike other climbing gyms, Rock Sports is not overcrowded, and has a refreshing atmosphere. It has plenty of amenities such as hangboards and gym equipment. Honestly an underrated spot…”
“Great place for indoor rock climbing. Lots of different levels of difficulty. The staff are already very welcoming and great to talk with. They also have climbing classes during the week. Recommended.”
