Pound's Park, on the former fire station site between Rockingham Street, Wellington Street and Carver Street, opened in April 2023 as Sheffield city centre's newest public park. Its climbing boulder was designed with families in mind and is meant to look like a Peak District rockface.
Made by the specialist firm Rockworks, it has a hand-carved polystyrene core with a sprayed finish, weighs six tonnes and stands about three metres tall and eight metres wide. Its natural-looking hand and foot holds are meant to suit climbers of all abilities. The park also has a large children's play area with timber climbing towers and slides.
The boulder is free to use, with no booking or staff, and is one of a growing number of public climbing boulders in Sheffield's parks.
