Lead climbing in the Union sports centre

The Sportunion Steiermark, the Styrian branch of the Sportunion sports federation, runs this climbing hall in its Unionhalle sports centre on Gaußgasse, which also has a swimming pool. The hall has 320 m² of climbing walls with lead routes at every grade, plus a 150 m² bouldering area with three wall angles and a campus board. Anyone can climb with a day ticket or a card for one month up to a year, and shoes, harnesses and ropes can be hired.

Courses and busy times

The Sportunion runs climbing courses for children, young people and adults. From late September 2026 to early July 2027, children's courses take up part of the hall on weekday afternoons (until 20:00 on Thursdays), and intensive courses run on three weekend mornings, so the hall is only partly available then. It also closes on some weekends for training courses, and all Sportunion venues close on All Saints' Day, from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day, on Epiphany and over Easter and Whitsun. Getting there

Parking is limited, so the Sportunion recommends coming by public transport or by bike: trams 1 and 7 stop at Reiterkaserne, tram 3 at Herz-Jesu-Kirche, and buses 63 and 64 at Nibelungengasse.
