Rockwall at the Y Alice Springs

The YMCA's Kilgariff Recreation Centre on Sadadeen Road is home to Alice Springs' indoor climbing wall. The roped wall sits inside a community recreation centre that also has a gym, group fitness studios, an indoor stadium, a sauna and a café. It is fitted with an auto-belay system and also takes top-rope climbing, and its panels are painted with a bright outback mural.

Sessions and prices

Climbing runs in staffed public sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and on Saturdays from 10:30. Since late September 2026 the wall has been closed to unsupervised climbing until further notice, even for climbers who were signed off before, so these sessions are the way to climb. Non-members pay $18 a climb, with junior and concession rates, 10-visit passes and $6 shoe hire. YMCA members climb free, and the All Access membership includes every rockwall session. Climbers aged five and up are welcome, and staff provide the training and equipment needed.

Groups, holidays and community

• Groups: schools, clubs and businesses can book a private 90-minute session for ten or more people, with an induction from a qualified instructor and all equipment.
• School holidays: the centre's Action Break programme for 5 to 12-year-olds includes time on the rockwall on most days.
• Community: ClimbingQTs, the LGBTQ+ climbing group, holds beginner-friendly meet-ups at the wall several times a year.
