Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia
Dynomite North Wollongong is the original gym of Dynomite, the Illawarra bouldering business that opened its first gym on Montague Street in 2017 with walls built by Walltopia, and added a second gym at Albion Park Rail in 2024. The gym is in a warehouse unit at 91-95 Montague Street, with more than 20 parking spaces on site; North Wollongong and Fairy Meadow stations are under 15 minutes' walk, and the free Gong Shuttle stops nearby.
Problems are set with colour-coded holds and start and finish tags, from easy to hard, and the walls are reset every Tuesday. Staff give first-timers a short safety induction, and no booking is needed for a day pass. Children aged six to 15 can climb with an adult actively supervising them; under-sixes climb at Albion Park instead.
The gym serves coffee from a South Coast roaster, sells climbing shoes, chalk and training gear, takes group bookings and parties, and welcomes well-behaved pets. Students get cheaper entry on Wednesday evenings, and the gym holds occasional social competitions.

“Always a chill and relaxed place to climb. For my very mid level I’ve found the settings to be consistently a good mix.”
“I find that the climbs are too hard for a beginner. … this gym even the lowest grades is too hard and there’s not enough option for me.”
“Plenty of space to boulder and lots of fans to cool down. Multiple rooms and mezzanine gym area. Every ability could be challenged here.”
