Bouldering in Atakum

Boulder Cafe is a small bouldering venue with a café, in a ground-floor unit in the Esenevler neighbourhood of Atakum, Samsun's seaside district. The shopfront is painted with climbing scenes, and inside, a bouldering room has panels at several angles above grey matting. There are tables and chairs on the terrace outside.

The café has been part of Samsun's climbing scene for years. It has hosted children's birthday parties with climbing, its walls have been used for drytooling practice with ice axes, and its team has run rock-climbing days with Panda Doğa Sporları, a Samsun outdoor sports and climbing club. At the Kapıkaya nature sports festival in Bafra in 2019, the two teams ran the rock-climbing sessions and say they helped more than 1,500 newcomers try the sport.
