Originally a Roman settlement known as Durovernum Cantiacorum (we know, it sounds like a spell from Harry Potter) Canterbury is a charming city filled with well-preserved medieval streets, timber-framed buildings and cobbled lanes. However, as it is home to the University of Kent and the Canterbury Christ Church University, the city has a vibrant and youthful feel alongside its historical roots, ideal for up and coming climbers. Not only that, but the city was home to a local legend, Hari Budha Magar, ex-Ghurka who was the world's first double amputee to take on the excruciatingly difficult challenge of summiting mount Everest - and come out victorious. Visitors to Canterbury can enjoy one of the finest bouldering walls in the South East of England, with a trip to Chimera.
