Hobart, Tasmania, Australia
Rock It Hobart is the original Rock It climbing centre, opened in 2013 by a group of local climbers just down the laneway at 54 Bathurst Street in central Hobart. It spreads its climbing over three storeys and caters for everyone from young children on their first climb to competition climbers, with a licensed café area for anyone watching. Its sister gym, Rock It Derwent Park, is bouldering only, and memberships and 10-visit passes work at both.
The setters reset a sector every Monday and Friday, and routes carry numbered grades from about 11 up to 30. Seasonal points series, such as the Winter Sector Series for boulders and the Rope Series for top-rope routes, keep regulars busy.
Groups under ten don't need to book. Climbing shoes are optional (closed-toe shoes will do), anyone 12 or over can learn to belay, and children under 12 must be supervised by an adult. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the dog zones. There's no parking at the door, but there are bike racks.
The Junior Development programme runs term-time squads for ages 6 to 18 and competition teams, adults can book a Learn to Lead course, and the monthly Bould Womxn session for women alternates between Hobart and Derwent Park.

“My son had an absolute blast testing his climbing abilities … The staff member at the front desk was very informative and helpful, thank you for your assistance!”
“What sets it apart from our regular gyms is the number of tunnels (our daughter loves these), the proportion of self-belay routes … and the height of the climbs.”
