Birmingham, England, United Kingdom
Redpoint Climbing Centre opened in 2008 on Cecil Street, a short walk from St Paul's and St Chad's tram stops on the edge of the city centre. Its walls are built in three dimensions, with bridges, arches and the centre's well-known stalactites, and there is even an indoor Yorkshire VS crack for practising jamming.
More than 75 lines carry over 300 routes up to 13m, reset every week by the in-house setters. There are top-rope and lead areas and one auto belay, on panel 50, for members over 16.
Over 200 problems are graded in Font circuits, on walls about 3.5m high over thick mats.
Independent climbers need to meet the registration requirements; newcomers can book taster sessions, learn-to-climb and lead courses, and inductions for bouldering. Redpoint also runs kids' clubs, school and group sessions, outdoor climbing courses, charity abseils and a mobile climbing wall. The vegetarian café currently serves drinks and snacks.
