Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia
Pulse Climbing Warners Bay is a bouldering gym in an industrial unit on Hillsborough Road in Warners Bay, on the northern shore of Lake Macquarie in the Newcastle area. Pulse describes it as Newcastle's first dedicated bouldering gym. It is one of four Pulse Climbing gyms, with Adamstown, West Gosford and Maitland, and a membership covers all of them.
The walls are split into sections, among them the North and South Walls, a slab wall, a cave, the Lakeside wall and two islands, which the setters refresh in turn, so part of the gym is new most weeks. Problems carry numbered grades on coloured holds, from easy climbs for beginners and children to hard ones for strong climbers, and some island sets are left ungraded for a while. The team posts a boulder of the week. The gym's own photos show a MoonBoard and a training area with a rig, rings and hang edges, and climbers post problems from a spray wall.
Every climber gets a safety induction on their first visit. The minimum climbing age is 5, and a parent or guardian signs the waiver for anyone under 18.
There is a coffee machine serving Sprocket Roasters coffee, tables and chairs, a ping pong table, an upstairs party area with a kitchenette, shoe and chalk hire, and a shop selling gear from brands such as Black Diamond, La Sportiva, Scarpa and Edelrid. A Friday afternoon happy hour cuts entry with gear hire to $20.

“amazing gym! the routes were super fun and got different styles! will definitely visit again”
“…The weekly wall section refreshes keep it interesting, whilst each new section still sticking around long enough (~6 weeks?) to ensure you crack that long running project before it’s reset.”
