About Momentum Katy

Momentum Katy, built in 2017, is the Utah-born chain's roped-climbing gym west of Houston. Its 36,000 sq ft building holds about 29,000 sq ft of climbing terrain: top-rope and lead walls up to 50 ft tall, crack lines in several widths, a speed wall and 21 auto-belays, with around 200 routes and more than 100 boulder problems from slab to steep. A youth area has shorter walls with holds set close together for the youngest climbers.

Training and facilities

There's a system wall and a range of hangboards, a weights and cardio floor, and a yoga and fitness room. Yoga runs daily and is free to members and day-pass holders. Locker rooms have showers, and there are private toilets and a pro shop.

Classes and community

  • Learn to Belay classes every other hour, plus Learn to Lead, a Fear of Falling clinic and 101 and 102 technique classes, with 101 also taught in Spanish
  • Six-week series: Adult Climbing Club, and for lead climbers Clips & Whips (mixed) and Leading Ladies (women and non-binary climbers)
  • Speed Club on Friday evenings and Clip, Climb, Connect sessions on Wednesdays and Saturdays, both free for members
  • Bouldering and roped leagues scored on the Kaya app
  • Monthly meetups with Texas Lady Crushers, Houston Queer Climbers, The Phoenix and an adaptive climbing group
  • Youth programmes from age 3, a homeschool programme, camps and the Team Momentum Texas competition team

- Yoga-only day pass: $20

- 10-visit punch card: $239, valid at any Momentum gym

- Rental combo (harness, shoes and belay device): $11; shoes $7, harness $5, belay device $2

- Learn to Belay class: $37 plus tax, day pass and rentals included (free for members)

- Lead certification test: $5 (bring a 35 m rope)

- 2-week trial with a belay class: $49

- Groups of 8 or more: $25 to $35 per person before tax

- Members get one free guest pass a month, plus a free guest on the first Friday of each month

- Single-gym monthly autopay (Katy only), billed on the 15th; cancel by the 10th before the next billing date

- Enrolment fee: $59, waived for students and military with valid ID
