Waizenkirchen, Upper Austria, Austria
The Alpenverein's Waizenkirchen group built this 13-metre outdoor climbing tower in 2020, behind the sports hall of the village Mittelschule. Its two-legged shape gives about 276 m² of climbing with overhangs and up to 50 routes across the grades, and the legs keep part of the base in shade even at midday. The routes are reset at least once a year; in 2026 the tower closed from 19 to 24 June for the new set.
The tower is unstaffed and open every day from 08:00 to 22:00, all year round. Buy a day ticket or a season card online, then scan the QR code with your phone to get in; anyone found climbing without a ticket pays €50 on the spot. You climb on your own responsibility: bring your own equipment and a belay partner, clip every quickdraw when leading, and don't top-rope in the overhanging section. Under-14s climb only with an adult or in a course group, and 14 to 17-year-olds need a parent's signature. A helmet is recommended, and there are no toilets on site.
From 1 May until the start of the school year, the group's climbers are at the tower on Tuesdays from 18:00 to help newcomers with clipping and belaying, and the group runs beginners' courses for adults (three three-hour sessions, from top-roping to first leads). Its indoor wall is in the primary school close by.
