Waizenkirchen, Upper Austria, Austria
The Alpenverein's Waizenkirchen group runs this climbing wall, sponsored as the Intersport Kletterhalle, in the sports hall of the village primary school (Volksschule). Built by the Slovenian maker Citywall in 2011 and extended in 2015, it has about 293 m² of climbing up to 8.15 metres high, with overhangs and routes from UIAA 3 to 9 for both top-rope and lead climbing. Harnesses, ropes and belay devices can be borrowed free of charge.
Children's training groups use the wall from 17:00 on Mondays and 17:30 on Thursdays. After that it's open to all climbers, from 19:30 on Mondays and from 18:45 on Thursdays, and the evening ends with a get-together for the regulars. Saturday afternoons can be arranged on request, and there's no climbing during the Christmas and Easter school holidays.
Every visitor signs a registration form. You need to know how to put on a harness, tie in, belay and do a partner check; if you don't, climb on a course or with an experienced partner who takes responsibility for you. Under-18s climb with an adult outside courses, apart from 14 to 17-year-olds with the indoor Kletterschein. Use the school's changing rooms. The group's outdoor climbing tower is close by, and a combined annual card covers both.
