Balıkesir, Turkey
This climbing wall stands beside the İsmail Akçay athletics track in Paşa Alanı, Karesi, just behind Balıkesir's intercity bus station. Google Maps lists it as the climbing wall of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality and the provincial youth and sports directorate. Photos show grey vertical lanes with yellow volumes, a yellow overhanging section and roped climbing, and there's a speed wall.
The Turkish Mountaineering Federation (TDF) ran basic and advanced sport-climbing courses here in 2018. In 2023 it held two national speed competitions on the wall: the Republic Centenary Cup championship in May and the 30 August Victory Cup in late August, each with categories from seniors down to climbers aged 10 and 11.
In June 2024 the wall hosted the school-sport national final for high-school climbers, with 120 school teams and 418 individual climbers from 30 provinces. The provincial youth and sports director described sport climbing as one of the many sports Balıkesir hosts in its modern facilities.
The wall isn't run as a public climbing gym, and no opening hours or prices are published. Federation competitions and courses are for licensed climbers entered through their clubs, so ask a Balıkesir mountaineering club or the federation's provincial representative about climbing here.
