GRIPswich Bouldering opened in June 2026 at 17a Thorn Street in central Ipswich, as the city's first dedicated bouldering gym. The air-conditioned hall has ten walls, from the overhanging Gravity wall and the Bat Cave to a teal pillar in the middle of the floor, with around 75 problems up at a time. Walls are reset on Mondays, longest-standing first, and the website shows how many problems each wall has and when it was last reset.
Problems are graded from 1 (yellow tag) to 8 (white tag). Members log their sends in the member portal or with a QR code at the base of each wall, which feeds an opt-in season leaderboard.
Coached classes run in nine-week seasons on weekday evenings: Climbing 101 for beginners and Intermediate Climbers for those past the basics, both from age 13, and Gripswich Geckos for 8 to 12-year-olds, each capped at eight climbers. The gym was chosen to host the 2026 Queensland Youth Boulder Titles and puts on themed nights such as Lights Out, with glowing holds, mini comps and a DJ. Birthday parties and school groups can be booked online, and Queensland Play On vouchers are accepted for kids' passes and programmes.
