Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, Brussels-Capital Region, Belgium
Evolution Verticale is a Club Alpin Belge club whose home wall is a climbing room in the Poseidon sports complex on Avenue des Vaillants in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, near Tomberg metro station. The room, branded Space Rock Poseidon, has about 400 m² of climbing surface up to 10 metres high, with 30 ropes and around a hundred routes and boulder problems graded from 3 to 7c, for children, teenagers and adults.
Outside its courses, the room opens for open climbing sessions four times a week in term time, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons, with longer hours in the school holidays. Visitors pay per session, with a harness and belay device included, and club members climb free. The club doesn't publish a belay test for these sessions, so if you're new to roped climbing, ask the club before you go.
Most of the club's activity is its weekly courses, which run from September to June: groups for children from age 5, teenagers and adults, from beginners to improvers and a training group, a few of them at the club's partner wall at the Royal Military Academy. The improver groups ask for a minimum grade and a belay certificate (brevet).
The club hosts a round of the Brussels-Brabant provincial competition circuit for young climbers and a friendly competition open to everyone. Beyond the wall, it organises trips for its members: crag climbing, mountaineering, canyoning, ski touring and hiking.
