Pressbaum, Lower Austria, Austria
Edelweiss Pressbaum is the smallest of the Alpenverein Edelweiss section's climbing halls: a roped climbing wall in the sports hall of the Sacré Coeur school in Pressbaum, in the Wienerwald just west of Vienna. The wall is 13 by 25 metres, with angled panels and features, and is set for top-rope and lead climbing. There's no bouldering here.
Outside courses it's open for free climbing on Sunday afternoons and evenings. The hall closes over the school summer holidays (in 2026 from 4 July to 27 September) and reopened on 4 October 2026. Ropes, harnesses, belay devices, shoes and chalk bags can be hired at the desk.
This is an Alpenverein hall: you can climb once as a non-member, but from your second visit you need to belong to an alpine club (ÖAV, DAV, AVS, Naturfreunde or ÖTK), which you can join on site. You need a partner trained in belaying and must know how to belay yourself, so beginners are pointed to a taster session or a basic course.
The section runs rope courses for adults on Fridays and for children from four, young people and families on Saturdays; courses need alpine-club membership. The Edelweiss Abo also covers the section's halls at Walfischgasse, Floridsdorf and the Südstadt.
Pressbaum station, on the S-Bahn from Wien Westbahnhof, is about eight minutes' walk away. By car, turn into Klostergasse after the Hofer car park.
