Climbing at the CSU Rec Center

Colorado State University's Campus Recreation runs the climbing wall inside the Student Recreation Center on Meridian Avenue. The current walls date from the centre's 2011 renovation, which added two 38 ft climbing towers, a bouldering wall and cave, and a 12 ft climbing wall at the pool.

Who can climb

The wall is for Rec Center members: full-time CSU students get membership through their fees, while part-time students, staff, affiliates and their spouses or partners can buy day, monthly or longer memberships, and members can sign in guests aged 18 and over. Shoes, harnesses, belay devices, lead ropes and even ice tools for dry tooling can be borrowed free while the wall is open. Staffed sessions with ropes run on weekday afternoons and evenings and at weekends, and members can boulder unsupervised on weekday mornings. Top-rope belay lessons and lead climbing classes run through the academic year, alongside Learn to Climb, an introduction to route setting, a dry tooling clinic, the She Climbs series, Out at the Wall and competitions such as the autumn Harvest Hang. CSU's Outdoor Program also runs climbing trips and classes on real rock.
